Forklift Driver Training

We also offer to provide driver training at reduced rates, to the standards required by the Driven Machinery Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1994 (OHSA). Successful candidates receive a Certificate of Competency in compliance with the Act and its administration by the Department of Manpower.

We offer to conduct a training course at your premises on the equipment the operator is familiar with. There is both a theory and a practical session with a test at the end of the theory session. The theory test can either be written or verbal for those with difficulty in reading and writing. The duration of the course can be condensed into one day with a maximum of eight operators and minimum of two operators per course.

Our Instructors are registered and approved by the Department of Manpower and accredited with the South African Institute of Materials Handling to carry out training and testing. All of our training is in compliance with the OHS (MOS) Act Regulation 18 Sub regulation 11 of the Driven Machinery Regulation.

The training course consists of the following:

  • Theoretical instruction of approximately 6 hours,
  • Pre-operation checks,
  • Starting up procedures,
  • Changing gas cylinders,
  • Changing batteries,
  • Refuelling,
  • Collection and delivery of hazardous cargoes,
  • Transporting loads with the caution and hazard signs,
  • Manoeuvring a loaded forklift

Certificates of competency will be issued to operators who test competent in the theory as well as practical tests. These certificates will be issued on receipt of payment and are valid for two years from date of issue.

Forklift Inspection and Testing

In addition to operator certification, regular inspection and testing of forklifts is now required by law in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

These comprehensive inspections have to be carried out every six months by a competent technician, and the forklift's lifting capacity must be tested at least once a year. The results of these inspections and tests must be recorded in a Forklift Register to be kept on the user's premises. We will carry out all necessary tests and record the results in an official Forklift Register which is supplied free of charge.
